Enjoy an Edible Garden

Edible Gardens

One of the great pleasures of gardening is being able to enjoy some of the fruits of your labors — literally. But if you’re not sure how to design a garden that provides bounty as well as beauty, Bay Maples can help.

A full-service sustainable landscaping company, Bay Maples handles everything from conceptualizing new garden designs to landscape construction, and they’re also experts in setting up greywater and rain-catchment systems.
Bay Maples loves native plants, and their approach embraces our regional beauty. Owner Alan Hackler says that often, when he’s building a garden, his clients will say that it reminds them of a camping trip they took in Santa Cruz or a favorite trail in Tahoe.
Hackler encourages clients to grow as many edible plants as possible. For instance, fruit trees provide more than food.
“They create shade, creature comfort and habitat,” said Hackler.
Some of his favorite edible plants to include in landscaping include natives like elderberries, huckleberries, wild strawberries, wild blackberries and miner’s lettuce.
